Ajmer Tour


Founded by Ajayadeva, an 11th-century Rajput ruler, the city of Ajmer houses the tomb of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti, the popular 13th century Sufi Saint and the famous Mayo College, a prestigious school here, founded by British in 1875.

Located in the state of Rajasthan, 130 km southwest of Jaipur, Ajmer is washed by streams of Luni River flowing southwestward and by tributaries of the Banas River flowing eastward. Barren hills of Aravalis overlook the city from one side and the Ana Sagar Lake on the other side. There are many monuments in Ajmer belonging to the Mughal era, as the city was an important military center during the Mughal rule. Ajmer's traditional handicrafts are world famous.


In 1193, the city was annexed by Delhi Sultanate but was soon returned to the local rulers on the payment of the tribute. At the end of the12th century Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti came here from Persia. It was this city where Jahangir met Sir Thomas Roe in 1616. Later the Scindia rulers of Gwalior took over Ajmer, which was further taken over by the British in 1818.

Urs is the main festival of Ajmer, which is the celebrated every year in the seventh month of the lunar calendar. The city is visited by millions of pilgrims from all over the world to attend the death anniversary of the great saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti every year.

Apart from the Dargah or tomb of Sufi Saint, the Ana Sagar Lake and its marble pavilions built by Shah Jahan, around the Lake in the 17th century, the Daulat Bagh, the fort built by Akbar, the Nasiyan (Red) Jain Temple built in the 19th century and the government museum are some important places that you can visit through the tour packages for Ajmer.
