LMB Restaurant

LMB Restaurant

This was originally known as Laxmi Misthan Bhandar which explains the three letters of the name. Once upon a time this was a Jain- Vaishnav place which specialised in vegetarian food cooked without onions or garlic. This is echoed in the menu which says, "LMB has a liberal approach to food and as such they go by one's choice and selection. Those who have a palate for onion and garlic in food are served food prepared by using onion and garlic to suit their taste such food is exclusively prepared." You get the idea.

The standard thing to do is to try the Rajasthani Thali which starts off with a Papad Mangori soup. Here you can see the influence of the desert. Without access to fresh vegetables, papads become the basis of the soup. Mangori is a local flavouring which gives it a slightly sour tang. The thali comes with ker sangri (capers and desert beans) bela Rajasthani (dumplings of besan in a yoghurt gravy) and panchmela (five vegetables of the chefs choice). Three different kinds of bread are served: lachcha parathas, naan and missi rotis. You round it all off with paneer ghewar, a delicious concoction of paneer. A comment: we are used to unlimited thalis where waiters rush at you to refill any katori that you may have emptied. None of that at LMB; we finished our ker sangri and had to summon a waiter for replacements. He seemed a little puzzled by our greed but we recommend it highly.

Outside you can buy LMB's famous paneer ghewar and potato-and-cashew nut tikkis dished up piping hot with spicy sauces.

Open for lunch between 11.30am and 3.3Opm and for dinner between 7 and 11 pm. Snacks only between 4 and 7 pm.
